Great article! I don’t see it being mentioned much, but these companies are missing the entire first half of the CRISP-DM processes. One needs to understand the data before jumping in the data science hype train. Also, a data scientist should understand ETL and data modeling, but this is mainly the job of a data engineer. People full on ignore this role, but it is so important.
